Official transcripts showing an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; for the M.A., a GPA in German courses of at least 3.3; for the Ph.D., a GPA in German courses of at least 3.5.
GRE required only for domestic applicants to the M.A. program (no minimum; used as an additional aid in decisions)
3 letters of recommendation
Statement of purpose in German- Outlining what your interests are and why you are choosing to study German at the University of Arizona (maximum 2 double-spaced pages)
Audio tape or CD in German - short biographical sketch (i. e. 3-5 minute personal narrative) and reading of a literary text (5 minutes). The submission of a CD is not required of native speakers of German.
CV or Lebenslauf
Writing Sample either in German or English for Ph.D. applicants.

International Students
If you are neither a US citizen nor a permanent US resident at the time of application, you will be considered an international student. In addition to the application fee for the university, you will also need to pay the application and processing fee for your visa to the appropriate institutions.

Official transcripts showing an equivalent overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; for the M.A., a GPA in German courses of at least 3.3; for the Ph.D., a GPA in German courses of at least 3.5. Evidence in the form of all available Scheine and other documents. You must have completed at least two semesters after taking the Zwischenprüfung or its equivalent. Provide both the original documents and English translations.
