This workshop will familiarize participants with the analysis of some the larger German-language corpora, that are available online and for free. Additionally, the workshop will provide participants with the basic skills of creating and annotating a text corpus on their own and show how the features of free software tools can be used to compile a corpus and analyze it, e.g. making word lists, comparing texts, generating concordances, and computing key words. The workshop aims to provide a solid foundation for participants’ further research in the fields of literary studies, (applied) linguistics, discourse analysis, translation studies, etc. There will be plenty of opportunity to get hands-on experience. If possible, please bring your own laptop.
