Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes | Aguirre, the Wrath of God (Werner Herzog, 1972) 

A cult classic from the dynamic duo director Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski. This story follows 16th century Spanish Conquistadors on the search for the fabled El Dorado. Led by Don Pedro de Ursúa (Kinski), nicknamed after the historic Lope de Aguirre, the Conquistadors embark on a grueling journey through the Amazon Rainforest. As the expedition troop starts to lose soldiers to the raging river, hostile indigenous tribes, and fever, several members question Aguirre’s ability to lead. However, Aguirre, dubbing himself the “Wrath of God,” declares himself the Emperor of El Dorado and forces his daughter and few followers on. Winner of 1973 German Film Award for Best Cinematography and the 1976 Grand Prix de l’UCC. 95 min.
