Ali Overgaard, Charly Mostert, Christina Butler and Kerry Marnell applied for a weekend workshop sponsored by the DAAD, which was held on the University of California-Berkeley campus in October of 2011. To further develop their teaching skills, they participated in two full days of informational seminars, which covered topics ranging from teaching demonstrations and reflections to best practices in lesson planning, teaching from texts, language-teaching methodology and translingual competency. Although many aspects of language teaching were covered, each took home a specific concept that they incorporated into their own teaching styles. Ali, Charly, Christina and Kerry will present what they learned and will share helpful tips for developing various teaching skills. Through their reflections on methodology, practical applications and small textual activities, they hope to share valuable tips acquired during the workshop as well as continue the development of the graduate staff through collaborative work.
