Allyson Carter is Editor-in-chief of the University of Arizona Press, where she manages the UAP publishing list of 60 books annually. In addition, she acquires books in social science and science and oversees nine book series. Dr. Carter received her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 1999 in Linguistics. Prior to her move into academic publishing in 2003, she was a research scientist at Indiana University and the University of Arizona.
Recent honors for Dr. Carter’s books include three Outstanding Academic Titles by CHOICE Magazine for Life in the Hothouse: How a living Planet Survives Climate Changes, Reflections in Place: Connected Lives of Navajo Women, and The Neighbors of Casas Grandes: Medio Period Communities of Northwestern Chihuahua; and the Arizona Book Awards Best Book Award for A Gift of Angels. Her books have been featured in such outlets as the Journal for the British Astronomical Association, the Canadian Journal of Archeology, and the Bulletin of Latin American Research.
Dr. Carter will share advice on the protocol of writing and submitting book proposals and manuscripts and will explain what editors are looking for when evaluating projects.
