In one of the first in-person colloquium events since the pandemic, the UA German department welcomed PD Dr. Leonhard Herrmann from the University of Leipzig. He gave a talk in German on "Diskursive Polyvalenz" where he outlined how contemporary literature in the German-speaking world reacts to populism.
During his short stay at the UA German Department, PD Dr. Leonhard Herrmann (left) also introduced the DAAD project "Leipzig Tucson Virtual Master Class," visited one of the graduate courses, and met with many members of the faculty. The project aims to establish a collaboration between a master seminar in Leipzig and the curriculum at UA, which will strengthen our existing ties through the dual degree PhD program in Transcultural German Studies. Dual degree doctoral candidate Sina Meissgeier (right) is responsible for the coordination of this transatlantic project. German majors know that we also have a popular undergraduate summer exchange program with the University of Leipzig.
