Last Friday, faculty and graduate students gathered for a festive evening of music and refreshments to mark the conclusion of the academic year. In her opening remarks, Dr. Janice McGregor thanked Dr. Barbara Citera for her exemplary service to the department during her tenure as the Interim Department Head. Dr. Citera appreciated the faculty, staff, and graduate students for their tireless efforts that fueled the department’s success this semester. She congratulated the graduating students: Kenneth Alumona (MA), Esther von Stosch, and Peju Orr (Ph.Ds.), commended their hard work, and wished them every success as they embark on the next chapter of their careers.
The celebrations continued with a special tribute from the faculty to graduate student Laurie Clark, honoring her exceptional service and unwavering commitment to the department. Laurie was celebrated for being a steadfast support to her graduate peers.
The highlight of the evening was the retirement celebration for Dr. Barbara Kosta. Former and current colleagues, alumni, and students honored her with moving tributes and a commemorative gift, reflecting the deep impact of her many years of service. Dr. Citera extended a special thank-you to Dr. Kosta for her outstanding leadership and dedication during her tenure as Department Head and wished her the very best in this next chapter.
The department also bid a warm farewell to Language Program Director Dr. Thomas Fuhr, who departs at the end of this academic year. Faculty and graduate students presented Dr. Fuhr with gifts and shared wonderful testimonials regarding his leadership. The graduate student cohort specifically expressed their gratitude for his mentorship and the innovative initiatives that have brought continued vitality and success to our language program.
