Dr. Chantelle Warner: What Facebook teaches about conversation in a second language

An article by Dr. Warner and her co-author, Hsin-I Chen, recently appeared in the journal Language Learning and Technology. The article looks at multilingual users of Facebook and considers how online interactions can be used to help learners reflect on the complexity of every day talk. Everyday talk is complex in ways in which we take for granted in our native or most proficient languages. The article argues that communication in social-network sites can help language learnes to explore "the complexities of speech communities and speech itself."
