Dr. Joela Jacobs, Assistant Professor of German Studies, has been awarded the University of Arizona Foundation Leicester and Kathryn Sherill Creative Teaching Award for 2020.

This prestigious, campus-wide award recognizes excellence in teaching, including outstanding teaching methodologies, quality of students’ learning experiences, and consistently high scholarly standards. In their support letters, students described Dr. Jacobs’s teaching as “multi-faceted and thought-provoking,” “collaborative,”  and “inspiring.” One student noted, “Dr. Jacobs is a phenomenal professor because she goes beyond teaching in a way that promotes success in her courses [...and] facilitates learning and growth that can be applied not only to the academic topic at hand, but to the overall lives of all of her students.”

Two of Dr. Jacobs’s classes were previously featured in a Daily Wildcat article highlighting “unique” GenEd courses at the University of Arizona.

A plaque commemorating the receipt of this award will be placed in the Donna Swaim Honors Lounge in the Student Union Memorial Center.
