Graduate students and participants of the workshop Multilingualism in a Globalized World visited the International School of Tucson on November 8, 2022. They observed classes of the school’s German language program, discussed benefits and methodological challenges of teaching children in a multilingual school with teachers, Alisa Kaiser and Damaris Meyer and Professors Nicole Marx and Peter Ecke, and had lunch with school colleagues and children. The International School of Tucson offers full language immersion programs in Spanish, Chinese, French and German in the Preschool and dual immersion programs in Spanish, Chinese, French and German in the Junior School. The visit was made possible by Head of School, Jessica Palma, and a Deutsch macht Spaß Grant from the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) for the project "German from College to Pre-School" to Peter Ecke and the UA’s German Studies department.
