Sept. 24, 2020
On Sept 30, Department of German Studies Graduate Student Patrick Ploschnitzki contributed to a conversation about Sharon Dodua Otoo’s Bachmann Prize winning short story “Herr Gröttrup setzt sich hin” with the author, the moderator Tina Campt, and the translator of the British version, Katy Derbyshire. The virtual event—which was hosted by Deutsches Haus NYU, presented by Still Magazine, and funded by the DAAD from funds of the German Federal Foreign Office (AA)—focused on Dodua Otoo’s text, the translation process into British and American English, and the question of representation and diversity in the German literary landscape. More information about the participants is available on the event website, and the event can be watched here.
