Teaching German with a literacy approach changed my understanding of foreign language education. Reading German texts and watching German films for gaining insights into the salient features of German culture, engaging critical thinking skills and multiple perspectives about cultural differences and similarities, developing communication skills and intercultural competence while learning about the structure of language, are important points that inform my approach to teaching German. Most importantly, my studies about the influential role of aesthetics in eighteenths-century creative thought reconfirm that literature and language studies are important tools of education.
