My German degree provided the linguistic and cultural foundation I needed to build trust and work effectively while serving overseas during the reunification of Germany and the fall of the Soviet Union. This deeper understanding of the people and the issues at hand enabled me to contribute meaningfully to addressing challenges at this pivotal moment in history.
