Graduate Associate

Lea Mueller is a doctoral student in German Philology (University of Cologne, Germany) and Transcultural German Studies (University of Arizona). She obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education in Teacher Qualification for Higher Secondary Schools with the major subjects in German, Pedagogy and Education Science in Cologne.

From 2022 to 2025, she worked as an academic assistant at the Section for Medieval German Language and Literature, which is part of the Department of German Language and Literature I in Cologne. In addition to her Master's degree, Lea successfully completed the Research Master program at the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne.

Her bachelor’s thesis focused on Schiller’s concept of love as a free, intersubjective relationship, while her master’s thesis examined the Thingness of passionate Love in the Tristan novels by Gottfried von Straßburg and Thomas von Britannien. In her forthcoming dissertation, she will build upon her earlier research, presented in her master's thesis, to explore the Things of Love in medieval literature. In this study, she will examine human-object-constellations of passion in various versions of the medieval French and German versions of the Tristan-Story.
