Dear German majors, minors, and enthusiasts,

Guten Tag! I’m writing today to introduce myself – I’m Dr. McGregor, the new Director of Undergraduate Studies and faculty advisor for German. As you might have seen in a previous email, I’m taking over for Dr. Classen (who has now moved on as our Director of Outreach). Many heartfelt thanks to Dr. Classen for his many years of service as faculty advisor!

I hope you’ve all had a great first few weeks back – I’ve already enjoyed getting to speak with a number of you about your major/minor plans and help with other questions, whether in person or on Zoom. ?

Here are three things that you should know as we move forward:

1. I’m excited you’re here! Whether you are…

  • a German minor or major who has advising questions;
  • interested and/or participating in the Deutscher Studentenclub (stay tuned!);
  • hoping to attend German department events (stay tuned!);
  • looking to get information on German study abroad opportunities (or trying to prepare courses/credit transfer before you go abroad);
  • catching up on our departmental news and/or regularly following us on facebook, instagram or twitter (@uagerman);

…please don’t hesitate to reach out with your questions!

2. I want your feedback ?

  • I am interested in learning more about your German experiences, stories, interests, as well as your future plans.
  • Stay connected to help with our efforts and build up our community together!

3. Conversations, clarity, and care are fundamental to my advising approach.

  • Have questions or concerns about your major/minor progress? Are you worried that you might not be able to get everything done?
    • Feel free to come and chat with me!
  • Need help due to a sudden change in circumstances (scheduling changes/issues, anything else that arises) and aren’t sure where to turn?
    • Feel free to come and chat with me!
  • In general, feel free to contact me to get help, support, reassurance, to check in on your progress in German, or just to discuss general strategies for success with language learning. I’m here to help, no matter your questions and circumstances.

Here’s how you can get in touch:

I look forward to meeting you and supporting your progress in German!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Dr. McGregor
