Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Amimo worked in Kenya as a communications and knowledge management consultant for different organizations in the private and public sectors. He has published in various newspapers and magazines in East Africa and taught German as a foreign language at the Goethe-Institut, Nairobi. He previously had a ten year work experience in the travel industry, managing and leading different teams successfully, designing innovation and steering projects, creating and managing content across multiple marketing platforms the high-end bespoke travel company Enchanting Travels AG.

He holds a Masters Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi. His research centered on Semiotics, exploring the design and dissemination of public health messaging and how different demographics of readers interpret and re/act upon them. He also has Bachelor's degree in Education from Kenyatta University, having studied English Literature and German. His key focus area was in creative writing. In addition, he holds a Grüne Diplom in German from the Goethe-Institut.
