Harriet Olulo is a doctoral candidate in the Dual PhD/Dr. phil Transcultural German Studies Program at the University of Arizona and Universität zu Köln. She earned her MA in German Studies at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, with a research semester at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, where she developed a keen interest in the intersection of translation and culture, notably examining the translation of culture-specific elements in Ngugi wa Thiong'o's novel "The River Between" for her master’s thesis.
Harriet’s current research interests explore the intersection between identity, language learning and digital technology where she investigates the relationship between identity formation, digital storytelling and language learning, particularly among learners and L2 speakers of German in transcultural settings.
In addition to her research, Harriet is passionate about teaching German. She has taught German language courses in various formats (online, hybrid, and in-person) to undergraduate students at the University of Arizona. Her interest extends to curriculum development for online teaching, where she explores the integration of digital tools to promote autonomous learning and increase engagement with authentic learning materials.
Harriet is also engaged in student representation and advocacy and currently serves as an At-Large Representative in the University of Arizona’s Graduate and Professional Student Council.
